Music like a straight fist punch of a strong like a bear viking woman: Stoph Bjornson is the first own music project of the Austro-Swiss multi-instrumentalist Stoph Ruckli, who previously worked as a session musician and music journalist. The sound is experimental, epic and full of energy and can be experienced for the first time on the EP «Rockstar Bebe»: a musical get-together of Frank Zappa and King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard paired with extended improvisations and passionate guitar pedal gimmickry.
Bjornson’s work is shaped by his own life lessons, influenced by his work at the supermarket checkout, at the bar or in the music industry. Further inspiration is gathered from mangas, video games, meditation, weight training and martial arts. Thus the lyrics are about self-reflection and confrontation in a conflict-averse society («Reflection Baby»), about growing up as a nerd («Heavy Metal Boi») and about the message «believe in yourself and have fun» («Strong Dialect» & «Rockstar Bebe»).
Behind the project is a whole group of striking heads contributing to the music and design. The EP «Rockstar Bebe» was recorded by Klara Germanier (g), Meret Siebenhaar (keys), Glauco Cataldo (g), Simon Hafner (dr, perc) and Stoph Bjornson (voc, b, g) at Visco Sound Studio Lucerne, co-produced by Martin Schenker (Alois, Jon Hood). Angela Kronenberg, Eleonora Bonorva and Jenny Kantsjö are responsible for the design as «Squadra Design», Noemi Aeschlimann is behind the live videos.
Always under the motto: Fun on the bass!
